Hair Porosity: What is it? Why is it important? What do I do with it?

 What is Hair Porosity (HP)?

Hair Porosity Showing Low, Medium, and High Examples

Hair Porosity is the ability to absorb and retain moisture in the hair. The porosity of your hair affects how well oils and moisture pass in and out of the cuticle layer in the hair.

Hair porosity is typically divided into three levels: low, medium, and high.

  • Low Porosity: Cuticles that are close together
  • Medium Porosity: Cuticles that are less tightly bound
  • High Porosity: Cuticles that are more widely spaced

By knowing your HP this helps you from drying out your hair, breakage, or over processing your hair.

(To know your HP level: On google they have different tests online you can do, or go to a professional for their expertise.)

Once you know your levels, here's some tips to help you stay on your healthy hair journey.
